Halloween Costumes

We were all so tired after our trip that Halloween was little more than half-effort this year. Natalie's costume had fairy wings, but she wasn't having any of that. Anyway, enjoy these not great pictures.

Engagement Pictures

Jeff and Kim met somewhere and then dated or something. All I know is that she caught the bouquet at Jared and Brooke's wedding and now these 2 are engaged to be married. Guess the whole bouquet thing really does work sometimes. Kim is a dancer and I think it really shows in some of these pictures. Especially the ones with heels. I'm seriously losing my balance just looking at the pictures.

Day 5 - Extra-terrestrial Highway

What a strange place Rachel is. Maybe they thought the alien hype would increase tourism and the population. Swing and a miss. Although every year they host the Extra-terrestrial Half-marathon. People from all over dress up like aliens and run 13 miles in the middle of the night. Perhaps one day I'll join them.

Unfortunately the Alien museum was closed, but the good news is we got home and ended this insanely long trip which perhaps doesn't seem long at all the Jacob and Leslie, but for us 1520 miles is a first. Maybe someday we'll make it all the way to Texas.

Day3 - Zion's National Park, Emerald Pools
Was it worth it to carry the kids for 2 miles to see this wonder? You betcha! The kids didn't make it to the last pool but they sure had fun in playing in the sand along the trail. This hike was pretty mild and if you're looking for a totally weird experience like hiking into a canyon in the middle of the desert only find an oasis complete with a waterfall, pool, and beach then I highly recommend the Emerald Pools.

Jacob Lake?

After the Grand Canyon we spent the night at the Jacob Lake Inn. We drove up to the "lake." Apparently it used to be bigger - almost to the trees. Jacob Pond or Jacob Mud Hole would be a more appropriate name. Also, in case you were wondering the store really is "curious."

1520 Miles Day 2

Day 2 - - Grand Canyon
Well I knew it was big, but wow....The pictures don't even do it justice. The thing is so big that your brain can't process it. One day I hope to come back and hike from the North Rim to the South Rim - 27 miles one way. There isn't very many pictures because I was too busy holding Doug's hand to let go and snap a shot. If you ever get a chance to come here and see it, even for just a few hours, do it! It's true that the Colorado River runs through the middle of the canyon, but you can't even see from here - you have to hike 14 miles to it. Oh and for those interested (mom) you can purchase a book from the gift shop (and amazon.com) entitled "Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon."

1520 Miles Day 1

We left a few days early for Jeff's wedding to take a little family trip 1520 miles later we're back home. Was it the best vacation ever? Probably. Mind you my expectations are pretty low.



Day 1 - Cathedral Gorge
"Cathedral Gorge is located in a long, narrow valley where erosion has carved dramatic and unique patterns in the soft bentonite clay. Trails abound for exploring the cave-like formations and cathedral-like spires. Miller Point, a scenic overlook just north of the park entrance on U.S. 93, offers excellent views of the scenic canyon. Shaded picnic areas and a tree-shaded campground area are open all year."

What a strange place this was. Just out there in the middle of nowhere Nevada. We were passing that way and Jeff tipped off on where to stop. At the time I thought hey, this good practice for the Grand Canyon. How naive.
